Welcome to the Reading
Welcome to my first three-card oracle reading.
This is actually a very special reading for me because, although I've followed tarot and oracle readings for more than ten years, this is the first time I've begun reading the cards myself.
I'm working today with the Celtic Moon Oracle, and I'm beginning with three cards that came out in my very first pull. I decided to return to these particular cards because intuitively I felt there was a reason they appeared when they did.
The three cards are:
Brigid's Well Sacred Site — Inspiration
Goddess Brigid — Protection
Sheela na Gig — Sacred Sexuality
Taken together, I feel they tell a beautiful story about inspiration, nurturing what wants to be created, and finally having the confidence to embody that creative energy and bring it into the world.
So take a moment to settle yourself, and if you've found this reading, simply take from it whatever feels meaningful to you.
Card One — Brigid's Well: Inspiration
What a beautiful card to begin with.
Our first card is Brigid's Well, carrying the message of Inspiration.
For me, Brigid's sacred wells represent so much more than physical places. They carry the energy of healing, creativity, renewal and flow — qualities that are deeply connected with Brigid herself.
The beautiful blues in this card immediately give me a feeling of healing water and feminine energy.
There's also something about the place where the water emerges from the earth that personally reminds me of the White Spring in Glastonbury. It brings to mind that wonderful feeling of water simply finding its own path — trickling and flowing rather than needing to be forced.
And I think that's important to this reading.
Perhaps inspiration can work in exactly the same way.
Sometimes an idea appears and immediately excites us. We feel that little spark inside telling us that we want to create something, change something or begin something completely new.
But then the mind gets involved.
Am I capable of doing this?
What will other people think?
What if it doesn't work?
This card feels like an invitation not to dam that flow.
When inspiration arrives and something genuinely lights you up inside, allow yourself to explore it. You don't necessarily need to know where the path will eventually lead.
You only need enough confidence to take the first step.
The guidebook also associates this card with beginning a new creative pursuit and harnessing motivation while it is present.
So the first message of our reading is:
Allow inspiration to flow, and when it comes, don't be afraid to act upon it.
Card Two — Goddess Brigid: Protection
And then something rather beautiful happens.
Immediately after Brigid's sacred well, we receive Goddess Brigid herself.
Her message is Protection.
What particularly draws my attention here are the animals surrounding her.
We have the cow, the sheep and, importantly for me, the swan.
Around Brigid's head is this beautiful Celtic halo, giving her a feeling of guardianship and divine feminine strength.
The guidebook speaks about carefully tending new projects, creativity being ignited and nurturing our developing abilities.
And I think that's exactly where this reading progresses.
The first card gave us the inspiration.
Now Brigid asks us to protect what has begun.
When an idea is very new, it can be fragile. Sometimes we share something too early and allow another person's doubts or opinions to extinguish our enthusiasm before we've even given ourselves an opportunity to discover where it might lead.
Protection doesn't necessarily mean hiding.
It can mean nurturing.
Give the idea time. Feed it. Learn about it. Allow yourself to become better at it.
And have confidence in the things that make you feel alive.
For me, Brigid brings a wonderfully nurturing quality to this message. It's almost as though she's standing behind that first spark of inspiration and saying:
Keep going. Give this a chance.
And there's another layer here.
When something we create comes genuinely from the heart, it may eventually help, inspire or support somebody else.
So perhaps we're not always being inspired solely for ourselves.
Something that makes you feel good inside may become exactly what somebody else needs to encounter.
Card Three — Sheela na Gig: Sacred Sexuality
Our final card is Sheela na Gig, with the message of Sacred Sexuality.
At first, this may seem like quite a change of direction from our first two cards.
But I don't actually think it is.
Sheela na Gig brings us very firmly back into the body.
Her image is unapologetic. There is no attempt to hide the female body, sexuality or the earthly aspects of being human.
The guidebook encourages us to explore sensuality, embrace our earthly nature and recognise sexuality as something sacred rather than shameful.
For some people receiving this reading, that may have a very literal meaning around sexuality, body acceptance or reconnecting with sensuality.
But intuitively, I'm also receiving another message from this card.
Creative energy needs to become embodied.
It's wonderful to have an inspired thought.
It's wonderful to feel spiritually connected to it.
But eventually we have to bring that inspiration out of our minds and into the physical world.
We have to create.
The energy of this card personally reminds me of ideas around kundalini — sexual and creative life-force moving through the body — although that comes from a different spiritual tradition and is my own intuitive association with the imagery rather than the historical meaning of Sheela na Gig.
For me, the message here is about becoming comfortable with your own creative power.
Your body, intuition, sensuality, imagination and spirituality don't necessarily have to exist in separate boxes.
They can become part of one whole, creative self.
Don't be ashamed of the power within you.
Learn how to work with it.
Bringing the Three Cards Together
When I step back and look at these three cards together, I see a very clear journey:
Inspiration. Protection. Embodiment.
First, something begins to flow.
An idea. A calling. A creative urge. Perhaps even a completely new direction in your life.
Brigid's sacred waters ask you to allow that inspiration to come through without immediately questioning or restricting it.
Then Goddess Brigid appears and asks you to protect and nurture what has begun.
Don't abandon it because you're inexperienced.
Don't decide you're incapable before you've even tried.
And don't allow somebody else's opinion to extinguish something that makes you feel alive.
Then Sheela na Gig brings the message down from the spiritual realm and firmly into the body.
Do something with it.
Give your inspiration physical form.
Write it.
Paint it.
Make it.
Speak it.
Build it.
Share it.
Whatever creation means for you, allow yourself to become an active participant rather than waiting indefinitely for the perfect moment.
So if this reading has found you while you're considering a new beginning, perhaps the message isn't that you need to know exactly where you're going.
Perhaps you simply need to allow the first drop of water to begin flowing.
Protect what emerges.
Nurture it.
And when you're ready, have the confidence to bring it into the world.
